From Wikipedia, Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is an Ethernet or Token Ring computer networking standard that allows a computer to be turned on or awakened by a network message. the correct answer should be : A. Alternative IP address

its gonna be A, wake-on lan is used to push updates to systems, and an apipa address is what the machine currently has

How does one go about handing out "alternative IP addresses?"lol. I think the question is telling us that the server(which could be DHCP) is off from a server and is causing everyone to get an APIPA address. The wake on Lan would essentially turn the server back on and fix the issue. I think wake on lan is correct.

If the DHCP server is down, you get an APIPA address (this case)... unless you have an alternate IP address configured. If you set a static IP as an alternate, then your will computer will use the static IP instead of the APIPA when DHCP doesn't work and can't give you an active IP address.

The answer is correct; Wake-on-Lan can use MAC address to communicate with the server.

no chance of this being Wake on LAN. Wake on LAN is used to turn a computer on remotely using data. Its most likley C. or maybe A

A seems more likely than Wake-on-LAN. Definitely not C. APIPA is not a user configuration, it is automatic. Please review this before the exam.
