Answer: Offline IDE Controller We need IDE controller as this is generation 1 , as gen 1 only supports IDE and not SCSI.

The disk is currently raw so it must be initialised first, but to be used as a pass through it must be in an offline state. So the first answer is either initializing or online. The second part should be IDE as it said if it's to be used as a system partition, data drives in a pass through can use the advantage of iSCSI. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcore/2008/10/24/configuring-pass-through-disks-in-hyper-v/

its initializing and IDE: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcore/2008/10/24/configuring-pass-through-disks-in-hyper-v/ You need IDE if it is a boot disk, which is the casr For the Guest to have exclusive access it needs to be set to offline, however the disk needs to be initialzed first (which is not the case yet). To moderator: My first comment was wrong. this one is correct.

its offline and scsi. Ref: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcore/2008/10/24/configuring-pass-through-disks-in-hyper-v/ You need IDE if it is a boot disk, if not better to use SCSI. For the Guest to have exclusive access it needs to be set to offline
