Exam DA-100 topic 5 question 4 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's DA-100
Question #: 4
Topic #: 5
[All DA-100 Questions]

Your company plans to completely separate development and production assets such as datasets, reports, and dashboards in Microsoft Power BI.
You need to recommend an application lifecycle strategy. The solution must minimize access to production assets and prevent end users from viewing the development assets.
What should you recommend?

  • A. Create production reports in a separate workspace that uses a shared dataset from the development workspace. Grant the end users access to the production workspace.
  • B. Create one workspace for development. From the new workspace, publish an app for production.
  • C. Create a workspace for development and a workspace for production. From the production workspace, publish an app.
  • D. In one workspace, create separate copies of the assets and append DEV to the names of the copied assets. Grant the end users access to the workspace.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C 🗳️
Use different work stages (Development, Test, and Production).

I think C is correct. A & B cannot be right because it says "completely separate development and production assets such as datasets, reports, and dashboards". A and B would not have separate datasets.

I think C. The reason being, I believe they are putting in a question related to Premium capacity, and a deployment pipeline aligns to the answer.

I go with A. The question says "The solution must minimize access to production assets". Option A grants only the end users to the production assets. My thought

Correct Answer: C Why? From the step by step Configuration of deployment pipelines you can read at point 5. "To create your pipeline, assign workspaces to each of these stages to facilitate where your reports and dashboards will be housed during each stage." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/modules/create-manage-workspaces-power-bi/4-development-lifecycle-strategy

The answer is B You can assign the pipeline to one workspace (development for example) and then all workspaces in the different stages will be created automatically when you deploy. You can use publish app in each stage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-rGuFCOn18

Very helpful video. However, option B doesn't mention anything about creating a deployment pipeline - it just says to use one workspace and then publish an app from that workspace. But we need to "completely separate development and production assets such as databases, reports and dashboards". The only option here that suits is to create separate workspaces.

C is the only just fine choice in this question. Using "delete bad and impossible choices first" test skill, C is the better choice.

Totally agree. Besides logical and trchnical understanding, the exam questions require a good understanding of language - which is tough for non native english speakers

New feature incoming that has pipeline development for premium workspace. Obsolete question after the test gets updated

This feels like its related to the Premium feature of development pipeline. As of the exam update of 27th Jan 2021, this question could be updated to be more specific on that feature of PBI Premium.

C is correct. The question says: 'completely separate development and production assets such as datasets'. Datasets are only separated when you use different workspaces.

C is correct but don't agree with your explication You can have more than Dataset in your workspace (Tested) so this is not the reason for C ==> the reason is that in the question the say "prevent end users from viewing the development assets" In only one workspace it's not possible, this is why C ----------------------------------------------- Because if there is only one workspace (like in "D answer" ) the end user will have also access to Dev Report (because with the Viewer rôle they can see all the reports and dashbords) ------------------------- Hope it's clear

For me B is the good answer, it should do the job because final users will have only access to the application

It might be the case that the dataset for production is different than the dataset for development. "Now, you are close to completing the pipeline, transitioning from development to testing, and finally to production. At this stage, you need to create a data source rule for the OrdersFigures dataset in the workspace to ensure that you are using production data. In this instance, you will be changing your source from the test to the production folder version of the orders.csv file, as shown in the following screenshot." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/modules/create-manage-workspaces-power-bi/4-development-lifecycle-strategy
