Sales skimming involves stealing cash before it is ever recorded in the accounting system. Because the sale is never entered into the books:
• There is no record of the transaction,
• So there’s nothing to reconcile against the cash receipts.
That makes reconciliation of sales records to cash ineffective for detecting skimming — since the fraud happens off the books.
