Exam AWS Certified SAP on AWS - Specialty PAS-C01 topic 1 question 73 discussion

A company is planning to migrate its SAP S/4HANAand SAP BW/4HANA workloads to AWS. The company is currently using a third-party solution to back up its SAP HANA database and application. The company wants to retire the third-party backup solution after the migration to AWS. The company needs a backup solution on AWS to manage its SAP HANA database and application backups. The solution must provide secure storage of backups and must optimize cost.

Which solution will meet these requirements?

  • A. Use SAP HANA Studio, SAP HANA HDBSQL, and SAP HANA Cockpit to perform backups to local Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) volumes. Enable EBS volume encryption. Use AWS Backup to perform application backups with AMIs or snapshots to Amazon S3. Enable S3 encryption.
  • B. Use SAP HANA Cockpit to implement a backup policy and perform SAP HANA database backups to Amazon S3 with AWS Backint Agent for SAP HANA. Enable S3 encryption. Use AWS Backup with backup plans to perform application backups with AMIs or snapshots. Enable S3 encryption.
  • C. Use AWS Backup with backup plans to perform SAP HANA database backups to Amazon S3 with AWS Backint Agent for SAP HANA. Enable S3 encryption. Use AWS Backup with backup plans to perform application backups with AMIs or snapshots. Enable S3 encryption.
  • D. Use SAP HANA Studio, SAP HANA HDBSQL, and SAP HANA Cockpit to perform backups to local Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) volumes. Copy the backups to Amazon S3. Use AWS Backup to schedule application backups with AMIs or snapshots to Amazon S3.

Doesn't AWS Backup take cost? I would go for SAP HANA Cockpit to optimize cost.

I changed to B. AWS HANA backup can't save backup at s3...

In my opinion C, as there is native support of AWS Backupt to utilize the HDB backups. You can restore them from there. No need to use SAP HANA Cockpit. https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2023/04/aws-backup-support-sap-hana-databases-amazon-ec2/

Selected Answer: B
B: This solution is the best fit because it uses SAP HANA Cockpit and AWS Backint Agent for SAP HANA to directly backup HANA databases to Amazon S3, and AWS Backup to handle the application backups. Both the database and application backups are stored in S3 with encryption enabled for security.

Selected Answer: B
option B is more cost optimal than option D because it uses SAP HANA Cockpit to implement a backup policy and perform SAP HANA database backups to Amazon S3 with AWS Backint Agent for SAP HANA. This eliminates the need to copy the backups to Amazon S3.
