Exam AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate topic 1 question 375 discussion

A SysOps administrator has many Windows Amazon EC2 instances that need to share a file system between nodes. The SysOps administrator creates an Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) file share. After creation of the file share, the SysOps administrator is having trouble mounting the file share to the EC2 instances.

Which action should the SysOps administrator take so that the EC2 instances can share the files?

  • A. Delete the EFS file share. Create an Amazon FSx for Windows File Server file share for the EC2 instances.
  • B. Use the correct IAM credentials to mount the EFS file share.
  • C. Configure NFSv4 support on the Windows operating system that is running on the EC2 instances.
  • D. Allow the correct port for NFS through the security group and network ACL.

When mounting an Amazon EFS file system on Amazon EC2 instances, IAM credentials are used for authentication. Ensure that the correct IAM role and credentials are configured on the EC2 instances to allow them to access the EFS file system. Additionally, the security groups associated with the EC2 instances should allow traffic on the NFS port (default is TCP port 2049), and the network ACLs should allow the necessary NFS traffic as well. However, IAM credentials play a crucial role in establishing the connection to the EFS file system.

You're correct w.r.t EFS feature on the usual EC2 instance side but EFS file system won't work with the Windows based EC2 instances as they specifically need Windows FSx File Share system here in this usecase scenario.

D is correct Amazon EFS uses the Network File System version 4.1 (NFSv4.1) protocol to share file systems with EC2 instances. To mount an EFS file system on Windows-based EC2 instances, you need to ensure that the necessary network ports for NFS are allowed through the security group and network ACL associated with the instances.
