Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional topic 1 question 72 discussion

Your company produces customer commissioned one-of-a-kind skiing helmets combining nigh fashion with custom technical enhancements Customers can show off their Individuality on the ski slopes and have access to head-up-displays. GPS rear-view cams and any other technical innovation they wish to embed in the helmet.
The current manufacturing process is data rich and complex including assessments to ensure that the custom electronics and materials used to assemble the helmets are to the highest standards Assessments are a mixture of human and automated assessments you need to add a new set of assessment to model the failure modes of the custom electronics using GPUs with CUDA, across a cluster of servers with low latency networking.
What architecture would allow you to automate the existing process using a hybrid approach and ensure that the architecture can support the evolution of processes over time?

  • A. Use AWS Data Pipeline to manage movement of data & meta-data and assessments Use an auto-scaling group of G2 instances in a placement group.
  • B. Use Amazon Simple Workflow (SWF) to manages assessments, movement of data & meta-data Use an auto-scaling group of G2 instances in a placement group.
  • C. Use Amazon Simple Workflow (SWF) to manages assessments movement of data & meta-data Use an auto-scaling group of C3 instances with SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization).
  • D. Use AWS data Pipeline to manage movement of data & meta-data and assessments use auto-scaling group of C3 with SR-IOV (Single Root I/O virtualization).

Selected Answer: B
This is a test on English reading. A lot of noise :-| "a mixture of human and automated assessments" -> SWF "GPUs with CUDA" -> G* family "low latency networking" -> place group.

Choosing SWF for "Assessments are a combination of manual and computerized evaluations" and G4 happens to be the current standard for GPU loads. Nearest match is B.

A and B cannot be the answer since ASG cannot be used in placement group. If SWF needed over data Pipeline, my answer would be C.

to support process change over time, SFW is needed over ETL tool (Data Pipeline). The answer should be C.

B. I think both data pipeline and swf work. But data pipeline focuses on creation and management of periodic batch-processing data-driven workloads, particularly ones using AWS storage services. So swf is a better fit here.

I think C is the answer, this is my reasoning for not selecting B. A cluster placement group is intended to increase network performance but it is best practice to create all instances in the placement at the same time, an autoscaling group implies instances can be added and deleted according to the load which goes against using placement groups. However using instances with Single Root I/O Virtualization can deliver low network latency without the constraints of cluster placement groups. If my reasoning is wrong please let me know why :)

Answer is B A cluster placement group was not a requirement. There are other placement groups types other than cluster placement that would work fine with autoscaling.
