Exam question from Amazon's ANS-C00
Question #: 82
Topic #: 1
[All ANS-C00 Questions]

An application runs on a fleet of Amazon EC2 instances in a VPC. All instances can reach one another using private IP addresses. The application owner has a new requirement that the domain name received via DHCP should be different for a particular set of instances that are currently in one particular subnet.
What changes should be made to meet this requirement while continuing to support the existing application requirements?

  • A. Modify the existing DHCP option set and specify the different domain name for the specified subnet.
  • B. Create a new DHCP option set with the different domain name, associate it with the specified subnet, and re-launch the Amazon EC2 instances.
  • C. Create a new subnet, configure the DHCP option set with the different domain name, and re-launch the required instances there.
  • D. Create a new peered VPC, configure the DHCP option set with the different domain name, and re-launch the required instances there.

"DHCP option set" does not allow per subnet association; assocoation is based on per VPC; answer A, B, C all mentioned of "per subnet" assocation thus incorrect answer. Just checked this on my test VPC.

You can only associate DHCP Option set to VPC and not specific subnets, D is the one.

D is correct “ After you create a set of DHCP options, you can't modify them. If you want your VPC to use a different set of DHCP options, you must create a new set and associate them with your VPC. You can also set up your VPC to use no DHCP options at all. You can have multiple sets of DHCP options, but you can associate only one set of DHCP options with a VPC at a time. If you delete a VPC, the DHCP options set that is associated with the VPC is disassociated from the VPC. After you associate a new set of DHCP options with a VPC, any existing instances and all new instances that you launch in the VPC use the new options. You don't need to restart or relaunch the instances. They automatically pick up the changes within a few hours, depending on how frequently the instance renews its DHCP lease. ”

D. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/userguide/VPC_DHCP_Options.html After you create a set of DHCP options, you can't modify them. You will have to create a new VPC and peer them since you cannot change DHCP per subnet
