Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate SAA-C02 topic 1 question 19 discussion

A company is planning to migrate a business-critical dataset to Amazon S3. The current solution design uses a single S3 bucket in the us-east-1 Region with versioning enabled to store the dataset. The company's disaster recovery policy states that all data multiple AWS Regions.
How should a solutions architect design the S3 solution?

  • A. Create an additional S3 bucket in another Region and configure cross-Region replication.
  • B. Create an additional S3 bucket in another Region and configure cross-origin resource sharing (CORS).
  • C. Create an additional S3 bucket with versioning in another Region and configure cross-Region replication.
  • D. Create an additional S3 bucket with versioning in another Region and configure cross-origin resource (CORS).

Yes C is correct, you need To enable versioning on both buckets https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-cross-region-replication-for-amazon-s3/

Explanation Replication enables automatic, asynchronous copying of objects across Amazon S3 buckets. Buckets that are configured for object replication can be owned by the same AWS account or by different accounts. You can copy objects between different AWS Regions or within the same Region. Both source and destination buckets must have versioning enabled. CORRECT: "Create an additional S3 bucket with versioning in another Region and configure cross-Region replication" is the correct answer. INCORRECT: "Create an additional S3 bucket in another Region and configure cross-Region replication" is incorrect as the destination bucket must also have versioning enabled. INCORRECT: "Create an additional S3 bucket in another Region and configure cross-origin resource sharing (CORS)" is incorrect as CORS is not related to replication. INCORRECT: "Create an additional S3 bucket with versioning in another Region and configure cross-origin resource sharing (CORS)" is incorrect as CORS is not related to replication.

ANSWER IS C , Creating a new S3 bucket in another AWS Region. Setting up S3 Cross-Region Replication (CRR) between the two buckets with versioning enabled. This will ensure that changes made to the dataset in the primary bucket are automatically replicated to the secondary bucket in the other region. Configuring Amazon S3 versioning to track changes to objects in the bucket. This will ensure that all versions of an object are stored, even if they are deleted, which can help with disaster recovery efforts. By using S3 CRR and versioning, the solutions architect can ensure that the business-critical dataset is stored in multiple AWS Regions, meeting the company's disaster recovery policy.

Answer is C for sure cross region replication can be enabled to replicate data across multiple regions. Also, key requirement for cross-region replication is the bucket should have versioning enabled.
