An internet gateway is a horizontally scaled, redundant, and highly available VPC component that enables communication between instances within a VPC and the internet. It acts as a gateway for inbound and outbound internet traffic, allowing resources within the VPC to access the internet and enabling the internet to communicate with resources within the VPC.
The internet gateway provides a way for instances within the VPC to send and receive traffic directly to and from the internet without requiring network address translation (NAT). It serves as a bridge between the VPC and the public internet, allowing resources within the VPC to have public IP addresses and be accessible from the internet.
