B use case for file gateway: "Hybrid cloud workflows using data generated by on-premises applications for processing by AWS services such as machine learning, big data analytics or serverless functions."

Should be A as Amazon Redshift managed storage uses large, high-performance SSDs in each RA3 node for fast local storage and Amazon S3 for longer-term durable storage. If the data in a node grows beyond the size of the large local SSDs, Amazon Redshift managed storage automatically offloads that data to Amazon S3. So AWS Redshift is managed storage for OLAP.

The only way answer is B when '' company wants to maintain its existing application environment'' means they want the same in AWS as in that case file gateway storage can be used which can move it to S3 and from there can be copied to Redshift for Analytics etc.

More - The fourth stage is data analytics and visualization. The real value of data can be extracted in this stage. Decision-makers use analytics and visualization tools to predict customer needs, improve operations, transform broken processes, and innovate to compete. The ability for mission owners and executives to rely on data reduces error-prone and costly guesswork. AWS services available in this stage include Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, Amazon QuickSight, Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Comprehend, Amazon Comprehend Medical, and AWS DeepLens. https://pages.awscloud.com/rs/112-TZM-766/images/Data_Lifecycle_and_Analytics_Reference_Guide.pdf This tells that Storage Gateway is ingest service not analytics or visualisation service

That's kind of lawyer wording. Anyway the reason why it's not Redshift is "The company wants to maintain its existing application environment". The only service here that can be used with practically no changes to the app env is File Gateway

The answer is clearly option A - Redshift. Explanation: The company wants to maintain its existing application environment => meaning they are not planning to migrate to AWS cloud. and be able to use AWS services for data analytics and future visualizations => they are interested in an AWS service that will offer the above. Question: Which storage service should a solutions architect recommend? => here they are asking for the service.

"The company wants to maintain its existing application environment". That's impossible to achieve if you migrate from any datawarehouse into Redshift

Selected Answer: B
B. AWS Storage Gateway for files AWS Storage Gateway provides hybrid cloud storage solutions that enable seamless integration between on-premises environments and the AWS Cloud. In this scenario, using AWS Storage Gateway for files would allow the company to maintain its existing on-premises application environment while also enabling data stored in the on-premises data center to be accessible to AWS services for data analytics and visualizations

I think D. Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) provides a simple, scalable, fully managed elastic NFS file system for use with AWS Cloud services and on-premises resources. It enables data science teams to easily share data and drive faster analytics and time-to-insights. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/storage/online-tech-talk-february-26-accelerate-data-analytics-with-aws-file-storage/

I'm not quite sure why so many people think it's Redshift. Redshift can't integrate with an on-prem enviroment by itself, and it isn't a storage service (it's a database, big difference!). Answer is B without a doubt.

They want to maintain it's existing infrastructure - not a word on want to migrate on cloud, etc.. It only wants analysis and visualization from AWS &&&&&&&& Redshift can give it :)

Answer is B: Q: What can I do with Amazon S3 File Gateway? A: Use cases for Amazon S3 File Gateway include: (a) migrating on-premises file data to Amazon S3, while maintaining fast local access to recently accessed data, (b) backing up on-premises file data as objects in Amazon S3 (including Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases and logs), with the ability to use S3 capabilities such as lifecycle management and cross region replication, and, (c) hybrid cloud workflows using data generated by on-premises applications for processing by AWS services such as machine learning, big data analytics or serverless functions. https://aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/faqs/?nc=sn&loc=6

(b) probably "the company has data" : it doesn't specify what kind of data, so it could be stored in databses, or files. "which storage solution should be used" : makes me think that the data is stored in files, not another database. so (b) because 'storage gateway' can help with a one-time migration or a long-term pairing of on-prem arch with aws, and 'files' because it's basically an nfs or smb mount and can be used to extend storage into aws cloud

answer B (AWS Storage Gateway is a set of hybrid cloud services that gives you on-premises access to virtually unlimited cloud storage. Customers use Storage Gateway to integrate AWS Cloud storage with existing on-site workloads so they can simplify storage management and reduce costs for key hybrid cloud storage use cases.
