Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate SAA-C02 topic 1 question 257 discussion

A company runs a static website through its on-premises data center. The company has multiple servers that handle all of its traffic, but on busy days, services are interrupted and the website becomes unavailable. The company wants to expand its presence globally and plans to triple its website traffic.
What should a solutions architect recommend to meet these requirements?

  • A. Migrate the website content to Amazon S3 and host the website on Amazon CloudFront.
  • B. Migrate the website content to Amazon EC2 instances with public Elastic IP addresses in multiple AWS Regions.
  • C. Migrate the website content to Amazon EC2 instances and vertically scale as the load increases.
  • D. Use Amazon Route 53 to distribute the loads across multiple Amazon CloudFront distributions for each AWS Region that exists globally.

Typically, I'd answer A as well but the wording of the answer implies that the website is hosted on Cloudfront which we know can't be the case. D is possible though (without the need for S3) since the CloudFront origin can be using Amazon EC2 (or another custom origin) and the scenario states the website is currently run through the on-prem data center..implying there is a web server already in place.

A it is : Cloud front can host static websites as per below snippet. Snippet from AWS documentation : Description: Amazon CloudFront is a global Content Delivery Network (CDN), which will host your website on a global network of edge servers, helping users load your website more quickly. When requests for your website content come through, they are automatically routed to the nearest edge location, closest to where the request originated from, so your content is delivered to your end user with the best possible performance.

How can we configure Route53 with a DNS routing policy with an A-record of the so-called multiple CloudFront Distributions (of various region)? Besides, when we create a CloudFront Distribution with a chosen Price Class (eg Use All Edge Locations), we are only provided with only 1 single CloudFront Distribution DNS endpoint eg d3t7sodkkll.cloudfront.net. Note: there is no multiple DNS endpoints (with resolved IP address) to use in the Route53 DNS Routing Policy. Answer D doesnt sound technical feasible unless someone share with me how it is achieved. I opt for A at the moment.

Moreover, the question states "services are sometimes disrupted and the website goes inaccessible on busy days" meaning that the issue is with the Webapp Servers processing capacity to deal with busy traffic requests. Based on that, do we think S3 is better than Route53?

A is the correct answer. Solution: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/cloudfront-serve-static-website/ Scenario explained in the link: I want to host a static website on an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket. Then, I want to serve my website through an Amazon CloudFront distribution. How can I do that? Please note in the option, it clearly states about migration to Amazon S3 and it's best suited for static websites as per the requirement here.

I think question needs more clarity, if their on-premise netowrk is unable to hold and there is bottleneck we should go with s3 hosting only. But as it doesn't say any of that, and not even that they want to transfer to s3/make any changes - we can use Route53 + CF

D is correct. A cannot be correct as CloudFront never host a website.!!!!! Rather it will distribute static content with S3 (or something else) as the origin.

D. Distribution in CloudFront is assigned a random domain. The question implies that the company's domain name needs to be used. To achieve this, need Route 53.
