Management was so worried about costs that they hired a cheap and incompetent aws sysadmin, who was responsible for major security disasters. Morality : VPN and AD Connector A and D

But management is also worried about "dependability"! D is obvious but how should we choose between A to have less "cost" compare with C OR choose C to address "dependability" compare with A ?!

A VPN should be deployed over Direct Connect to ensure the traffic is encrypted. You would use an AD Connector here since it doesn’t cache any credentials in the cloud. AWS Hosted AD is more expensive and caches credentials.

CD C. Direct Connect is for reliability. D. AD connector cost is low compared to AWS hosted AD solution. The authentication between AD connector and on-premises domain controllers is encrypted, so it meets security requirement. AD Connector supports the following encryption types when authenticating via Kerberos to your Active Directory domain controllers: AES-256-HMAC AES-128-HMAC RC4-HMAC https://docs.aws.amazon.com/directoryservice/latest/admin-guide/prereq_connector.html

it's an unclear question: the confused point is we need AD Service or not Without AD svc then: security & cost = IPSec VPN reliability = DCX -> AC. With AD Svc: Yes we do need an AD Service support like AD Connector (can paired with both VPN and DCX) -> AD

A. VPN D. AD Connector AWS Workspace needs Active Directory for authentication. AD connector is the cheapest method as it uses onpremise AD
