Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate SAA-C02 topic 1 question 352 discussion

A company runs its production workload on an Amazon Aurora MySQL DB cluster that includes six Aurora Replicas. The company wants near-real-lime reporting queries from one of its departments to be automatically distributed across three of the Aurora Replicas. Those three replicas have a different compute and memory specification from the rest of the DB cluster.
Which solution meets these requirements?

  • A. Create and use a custom endpoint for the workload.
  • B. Create a three-node cluster clone and use the reader endpoint.
  • C. Use any of the instance endpoints for the selected three nodes.
  • D. Use the reader endpoint to automatically distribute the read-only workload.

For clusters with DB instances of different capacities or configurations, you can connect to custom endpoints associated with different subsets of DB instances.

This question was on my test that I passed on Nov 20 2021. I picked A custom endpoint. Roughly about half of the questions are from this 500 examtopics dump. But other half were unheard of new and lengthy ones in my test. Some of those questions had similarities but had twisted options. Good luck ya'll.

This feature is intended for advanced users with specialized kinds of workloads where it isn't practical to keep all the Aurora Replicas in the cluster identical. With custom endpoints, you can predict the capacity of the DB instance used for each connection. When you use custom endpoints, you typically don't use the reader endpoint for that cluster. Answer is A.

Meanwhile Reader Endpoint also helps the cluster to scale the capacity to handle simultaneous SELECT queries, proportional to the number of Aurora Replicas in the cluster. Each Aurora DB cluster has one reader endpoint. ~Answer could be B

Once you clone it is separate copy and won't be updated real time, so there won't be near real time reporting queries as the data will become stale and non-relevant

Selected Answer: A
A - the custom endpoint, will be able to identify which replica had the highest work load. And with report, the Solution Architect will do the needful to increase the capacity if require. https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2018/11/amazon-aurora-simplifies-workload-management-with-custom-endpoints/#:~:text=A%20custom%20endpoint%20can%20then,helps%20spread%20the%20load%20around.

Cluster endpoint – Connects you to the primary instance and automatically follows the primary instance in case of failover, that is, when the current primary instance is demoted and one of the Aurora Replicas is promoted in its place. • Reader endpoint – Includes all Aurora Replicas in the DB cluster under a single DNS CNAME. You can use the reader endpoint to implement DNS round robin load balancing for read-only connections. • Instance endpoint – Each instance in the DB cluster has its own individual endpoint. You can use this endpoint to connect directly to a specific instance. • Custom endpoints – User-defined DNS endpoints containing a selected group of instances from a given cluster - (Correct Answer A)

answer is A. Aurora uses single reader endpoint for all replica nodes. We can create new custom endpoints for our workloads. So, 3 nodes can share the same custom endpoint and serve the reports. B is out because 3' node cluster clone' does not make sense C-this happens in 'RDS 'where instance endpoints exist and application needs to be updated with connection string D-this would effectively mean using the same endpoint shared by all 6 replica nodes
