Exam AWS-SysOps topic 1 question 885 discussion

Exam question from Amazon's AWS-SysOps
Question #: 885
Topic #: 1
[All AWS-SysOps Questions]

A SysOps administrator is evaluating Amazon Route 53 DNS options to address concerns about high availability for an on-premises website. The website consists of two servers: a primary active server and a secondary passive server. Route 53 should route traffic to the primary server if the associated health check returns
2xx or 3xx HTTP codes. All other traffic should be directed to the secondary passive server. The failover record type, set ID, and routing policy have been set appropriately for both primary and secondary servers.
Which next step should be taken to configure Route 53?

  • A. Create an A record for each server. Associate the records with the Route 53 HTTP health check.
  • B. Create an A record for each server. Associate the records with the Route 53 TCP health check.
  • C. Create an alias record for each server with evaluate target health set to yes. Associate the records with the Route 53 HTTP health check.
  • D. Create an alias record for each server with evaluate target health set to yes. Associate the records with the Route 53 TCP health check.

Selected Answer: A
A Records: A records are used to map domain names to IPv4 addresses. In this scenario, you want to map the domain names of the on-premises website to the IP addresses of the primary active server and the secondary passive server. HTTP Health Check: You should use an HTTP health check to monitor the health of the servers in Route 53. The health check should return 2xx or 3xx HTTP status codes for the primary server to be considered healthy.

It can NOT be C or D: "An alias record can only redirect queries to selected AWS resources" https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/resource-record-sets-choosing-alias-non-alias.html

To be a little more clear... because the question is vague ...creating an Alias record for each server has zero benefit in this scenario. It can redirect resources but it was designed to adapt to how IP addresses are shuffled behind the scenes with AWS managed resources.

– You create health checks for the resources that you can’t create alias records for, such as EC2 instances or servers in your own data center. You specify how to send health‑checking requests to the resource: which protocol to use (HTTP, HTTPS, or TCP), which IP address and port to use, and, for HTTP/HTTPS health checks, a domain name and path

it should be C - use alias record to map with on-premises websites domain is much appropriate. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/dns-failover-complex-configs.html
