Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate SAA-C02 topic 1 question 447 discussion

A company is using AWS Organizations with two AWS accounts: Logistics and Sales. The Logistics account operates an Amazon Redshift cluster. The Sales account includes Amazon EC2 instances. The Sales account needs to access the Logistics account's Amazon Redshift cluster.
What should a solutions architect recommend to meet this requirement MOST cost-effectively?

  • A. Set up VPC sharing with the Logistics account as the owner and the Sales account as the participant to transfer the data.
  • B. Create an AWS Lambda function in the Logistics account to transfer data to the Amazon EC2 instances in the Sales account.
  • C. Create a snapshot of the Amazon Redshift cluster, and share the snapshot with the Sales account. In the Sales account, restore the cluster by using the snapshot ID that is shared by the Logistics account.
  • D. Run COPY commands to load data from Amazon Redshift into Amazon S3 buckets in the Logistics account. Grant permissions to the Sales account to access the S3 buckets of the Logistics account.

You cannot share resources with other accounts via VPC sharing, you only share the VPC shell and the networking that goes along with it.

Yeah, it looks like VPC Sharing is the cost-effective approach. VPC sharing allows multiple AWS accounts to create their application resources, such as Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) databases, Amazon Redshift clusters, and AWS Lambda functions, into shared, centrally-managed virtual private clouds (VPCs). In this model, the account that owns the VPC (owner) shares one or more subnets with other accounts (participants) that belong to the same organization from AWS Organizations.

"After a subnet is shared, the participants can view, create, modify, and delete their application resources in the subnets shared with them. Participants cannot view, modify, or delete resources that belong to other participants or the VPC owner. " How would Sales view or modify data managed by Logistics if Sales is a participant and Logistics is the VPC owner? A is impossible to do.

C is correct for given reference within answer section In this article, we would start with a working AWS Redshift cluster and it’s assumed that you already have the required data in the cluster that is required to be shared with a different AWS account.

VPC Sharing currently does not allow Redshift as a option to share via Resource Access Manager (RAM)..you can login to AWS console and check yourself. Amen!

Answer is C One of the standard methods followed to transfer data across AWS Redshift clusters within as well as across AWS accounts is by creating snapshots of the cluster and then restoring this snapshot in the cluster of choice. In this article, we will learn a mechanism to address this scenario by using AWS Redshift database snapshots, sharing it with the desired accounts and restoring the same into an Amazon Redshift cluster. https://www.sqlshack.com/share-aws-redshift-data-across-accounts/
