Straight from AWS Sample Exam Questions: An ecommerce company wants to lower costs on its nightly jobs that aggregate the current day's sales and store the results in Amazon S3. The jobs run on multiple on-demand instances, and the jobs take just under 2 hours to complete. The jobs can run at any time during the night. If the job fails for any reason, it needs to be started from the beginning. Which solution is the MOST cost-effective based on these requirements? A) Purchase Reserved Instances. B) Submit a request for a Spot block. C) Submit a request for all Spot Instances. D) Use a mixture of On-Demand and Spot Instances. B – The solution will take advantage of Spot pricing, but by using a Spot block instead of Spot Instances, the company can be assured the job will not be interrupted.

should be B. defined-duration workload, you can now launch Spot instances that will run continuously for a finite duration (1 to 6 hours). Pricing is based on the requested duration and the available capacity, and is typically 30% to 45% less than On-Demand, with an additional 5% off during non-peak hours for the region. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-ec2-spot-blocks-for-defined-duration-workloads/

Selected Answer: B
A Spot block is a type of Spot Instance that allows you to specify a predefined duration (1 to 6 hours) for running your instances. Spot Instances are spare EC2 instances offered at significantly discounted prices compared to On-Demand instances. By using Spot Instances, the company can take advantage of the lower cost and potentially reduce their expenses for nightly job execution.

B Spot block allows you to 'reserve a spot instance' for up to 6 hours https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-ec2-spot-blocks-for-defined-duration-workloads/

One thing I don't get about Spot in examples like this.... In spot you set a price, e.g. $0.25. if the price is below this then the instances "spin up"... correct? so.... if the price is not met then the instances will not spin up and the job will not be started?? very happy to be corrected on this.

Spot Block => Refers the Block Duration of the time . Hence Ans B wins. Ans D is One time. so not.
