Exam AWS-SysOps topic 1 question 678 discussion

Exam question from Amazon's AWS-SysOps
Question #: 678
Topic #: 1
[All AWS-SysOps Questions]

A SysOps Administrator is running an automatically scaled application behind an Application Load Balancer. Scaling out is triggered when the CPUUtilization instance metric is more than 75% across the Auto Scaling group. The Administrator noticed aggressive scaling out. Developers suspect an application memory leak that is causing aggressive garbage collection cycles.
How can the Administrator troubleshoot the application without triggering the scaling process?

  • A. Suspend the scaling process before troubleshooting.
  • B. Delete the Auto Scaling group and recreate it when troubleshooting is complete.
  • C. Remove impacted instances from the Application Load Balancer.
  • D. Create a scale down trigger when the CPUUtilization instance metric is at 70%.

Selected Answer: A
By suspending the scaling process, the Administrator can prevent the Auto Scaling group from triggering scaling actions based on the CPUUtilization metric while troubleshooting the application. This allows the Administrator to investigate the suspected memory leak and perform necessary diagnostics without unnecessary interference from the scaling process.

C. The first thing to do is to isolate the impacted instance. If issue happens on all instance then we need to remove the scaling policy and put application under mantenance.

Isn’t that going to trigger the ASG to replace the instance the moment ASG minimums are out of range?
