Exam AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate SAA-C02 topic 1 question 481 discussion

A company wants to use a custom distributed application that calculates various profit and loss scenarios. To achieve this goal, the company needs to provide a network connection between its Amazon EC2 instances. The connection must minimize latency and must maximize throughput
Which solution will meet these requirements?

  • A. Provision the application to use EC2 Dedicated Hosts of the same instance type.
  • B. Configure a placement group for EC2 instances that have the same instance type.
  • C. Use multiple AWS elastic network interfaces and link aggregation.
  • D. Configure AWS PrivateLink for the EC2 instances.

B is missing key word "cluster placement group" but no other answer makes any sense. hope it is just not exactly rewriten from original exam question...

If it only mentions the throughput, I think 'C' is also possible where link aggregation will enhance the throughput but not decrease latency.

This question was on my test that I passed on Nov 20 2021. I picked B. Roughly half of the questions are from this 500 examtopics dump. But other half were unheard of new and lengthy ones in my test. Some of those questions had similarities but had twisted options. Good luck ya'll.

Shall be A, because dedicated host is reversed for a single use

Selected Answer: B
Cluster placement groups are recommended for applications that benefit from low network latency, high network throughput, or both. They are also recommended when the majority of the network traffic is between the instances in the group. To provide the lowest latency and the highest packet-per-second network performance for your placement group, choose an instance type that supports enhanced networking. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/placement-groups.html#placement-groups-cluster

B doesn't say Cluster Placement Group. Dedicated host is best in this case as every thing is on same hardware.

Why not A? Instances launched in the same dedicated host are running are somewhat like running in a "cluster" placement group imo.

A and B are both correct. ============ Placement groups: -cluster(EC2s on same rack/server) -spread(each Ec2 on own rack, can do multi AZ) -partition(concept of partitions, each partition on diff rack, multiple ec2 can belong to same rack//can do multi AZ) ============ Aim is to use same underlying server ie control the EC2 placement in Dedicated host (to reduce latency). 'Dedicated Hosts' allow us to rent entire server and control placement of individual EC2 instances. We also have visibility into cores/sockets(and can make use of server licensing tied to sockets). Contrast this with 'Dedicated Instances' where we still rent complete server but cannot control placement of Ec2 instances.
