Exam AWS-SysOps topic 1 question 624 discussion

Exam question from Amazon's AWS-SysOps
Question #: 624
Topic #: 1
[All AWS-SysOps Questions]

A SysOps Administrator is troubleshooting an AWS CloudFormation template whereby multiple Amazon EC2 instances are being created. The template is working in us-east-1, but it is failing in us-west-2 with the error code:
AMI [ami-12345678] does not exist
How should the Administrator ensure that the AWS CloudFormation template is working in every region?

  • A. Copy the source region's Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to the destination region and assign it the same ID.
  • B. Edit the AWS CloudFormation template to specify the region code as part of the fully qualified AMI ID.
  • C. Edit the AWS CloudFormation template to offer a drop-down list of all AMIs to the user by using the AWS::EC2::AMI::ImageID control.
  • D. Modify the AWS CloudFormation template by including the AMI IDs in the ג€Mappingsג€ section. Refer to the proper mapping within the template for the proper AMI ID.

You will still have to copy the AMI from us-east-1 to us-west-2 region, and then use the appropriate image ID in the mappings section of CloudFormation. That way you don't have to hardcode the AMI ID in your CFT, and use the same template in any region as long as the mapping section covers that region and the corresponding AMI ID.

Selected Answer: D
In the "Mappings" section, you can define mappings for AMIs based on region. Each region can have its own AMI ID specified in the template. By referring to the appropriate mapping within the template, you can dynamically select the correct AMI ID based on the region where the CloudFormation stack is being deployed.

D is correct The optional Mappings section matches a key to a corresponding set of named values. For example, if you want to set values based on a region, you can create a mapping that uses the region name as a key and contains the values you want to specify for each specific region. You use the Fn::FindInMap intrinsic function to retrieve values in a map. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSCloudFormation/latest/UserGuide/mappings-section-structure.html
