Selected Answer: C
C. Launch the instances in the Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). When you launch EC2 instances within a VPC, you have granular control over the network configuration, including the ability to specify the private IP addresses for the instances. You can define a subnet within the VPC and configure the IP address range for that subnet. When launching an instance within the subnet, you can choose a specific IP address from the defined range.

I'm voting for A. That's sort of the idea of an elastic IP.

So I'm thinking through these questions a bit more. "Pre-determined". So that leads me to that more so I need a specific IP rather than a dedicated one. If that makes sense. So I'm leaning more towards C after doing a bit more of thinking.

C is the answer In the VPC you can define a cidr range and the instances spun in the associated subnets will assume IPs in that range.

A is correct Details: All EC2 can only be launched within VPC. but public and private IP assignments are random within subnet you select. Predefined IP can only be through elastic IP.

A By creating a subnet CIDR you are creating a group of predefined IP address https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?threadID=233469

I think the question is poorly worded. Where else would you launch EC2 instances if not a VPC?

EC2 classic didn't have VPC, but I believe it is deprecated and can't launch new instances there. Isn't lightsail a standalone instance as well? I think they call it lightsail VPC which is not controlled in the same manner as Amazon VPC.

When you create a VPC, you must assign it an IPv4 CIDR block (a range of private IPv4 addresses)
