D. Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server
In Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service), the customer is responsible for tasks such as managing database settings, DB security groups, database encryption, and patching the operating system and database engine. This includes applying updates and patches to the underlying Microsoft SQL Server in the RDS instance. https://aws.amazon.com/compliance/shared-responsibility-model/#:~:text=Patch%20Management%20%E2%80%93%20AWS%20is%20responsible,their%20guest%20OS%20and%20applications.
The other options (A, B, and C) are also managed AWS services, and the responsibility for updating and patching varies depending on the specific service and component. However, for Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server (option D), the customer has more control and responsibility over the database software layer compared to the other options.
