https://aws.amazon.com/config/faqs/ How can AWS Config help with audits? AWS Config gives you access to resource configuration history. You can relate configuration changes with AWS CloudTrail events that possibly contributed to the change in configuration. This information provides you full visibility, right from details, such as, “Who made the change?” and “From what IP address?”, to the effect of this change on AWS resources and related resources. You can use this information to generate reports to aid auditing and assessing compliance over a period.

AWS Config: AWS Config is a service that enables you to assess, audit, and evaluate the configurations of your AWS resources. It continuously monitors and records the changes to the configuration settings of your AWS resources. With AWS Config, you can view the historical timeline of configuration changes and track the changes made to your resources over time. AWS CloudTrail: AWS CloudTrail is a service that records API calls and events for your AWS account. It provides a history of AWS API calls made by or on behalf of your account and delivers log files to an Amazon S3 bucket. CloudTrail allows you to track who made the API call, when it was made, which resources were accessed, and the source IP address of the requester. Both AWS Config and AWS CloudTrail can be useful for providing information about changes to your AWS environment, helping you understand how your resources have changed since the previous audit.
