You don't have to be in export mode to run the command api status. Just checked on a mgmt server.

correct, from CCSE R80 guide: To verify that the API server is running, run the following command in Expert mode: api status To start the API server, run the following command in Expert mode: api start To stop the API server, run the following command in Expert mode: api stop
