I was thinking the correct answer is 0.0.0.8 and not 0.0.0.7 subtracting 248 from 256 will give 8

Wildcard mask are always odd numbers. They can be determined by subtracting the subnet mask from 255.255.255.255. 255.255.255.255 - 255.255.255.248 = 0.0.0.7

You can think in the size of the network, then substract 1, that will be the wildcard mask. If subnetmask is /27 (255.255.255.224) then think, subnet size = 32 - 1 = 31. Wildcard = 0.0.0.31. Easy.
