- SaltStack relies on an agent (Salt Minion) installed on the target systems to manage them. The Salt Minion connects to the Salt Master and executes commands and configurations as directed.
- Ansible, on the other hand, is agentless. It uses SSH (by default) or other connection methods to communicate with target systems and execute tasks remotely. There is no need to install any agent on the target systems beforehand.
