Type 2 hypervisor, also known as a hosted hypervisor, runs on top of an existing operating system. It relies on the underlying OS to manage hardware resources and provides virtualization services to guest operating systems.
Type 1 hypervisor (bare-metal hypervisor), which runs directly on the hardware and does not require an underlying operating system.
