D. supports segmentation using tagging protocols Explanation: Layer 2 switches are capable of supporting network segmentation using tagging protocols, such as VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks). VLANs allow the network to be logically divided into separate broadcast domains, providing isolation and improved network management. VLAN tagging, typically done using the 802.1Q standard, allows the switch to identify and differentiate frames belonging to different VLANs.
