Refer to the exhibit. Routers RA and RB are IS-IS peers configured for NSF, but router RC is an IS-IS peer without NSF capability. If RA undergoes processor switchover, what is the effect on the network environment?

  • A. If RC is operating without the Cisco configuration option, only 2 routers tear down their peering relationships and re-establish peering
  • B. All peer relationships remain up, but the link-state database is rebuilt on each device
  • C. If RC is operating without the Cisco configuration option, all three routers tear down their peering relationships and re-establish peering
  • D. All peer relationships remain up and the link-state database is unchanged

It is essential to know the type of NSF on RA. Cisco NSF foes not perform any GR signalling, but IETF NSF does.

Selected Answer: A
A. If RC is operating without the Cisco configuration option for NSF, it will not understand the NSF process. As a result, RA and RC will tear down their peering relationship and re-establish it, but RA and RB, both having NSF, will maintain their peering relationship. B. This option is incorrect because NSF is designed to prevent the teardown of peer relationships and the need to rebuild the link-state database.

C. This option suggests that all three routers will tear down their peering relationships and re-establish them. This would be the case if none of the routers supported NSF; however, since RA and RB do support NSF, they should maintain their peering relationship, making this option incorrect. D. This is the desired effect of NSF. RA and RB should maintain their peer relationship and the link-state database should remain unchanged. However, since RC does not support NSF, it will not be able to maintain its peering with RA through the switchover. Given these explanations, the most likely correct answer is: A. If RC is operating without the Cisco configuration option, only 2 routers (RA and RC) tear down their peering relationships and re-establish peering
