Actual exam question from Cisco's 300-425
Question #: 147
Topic #: 1
[All 300-425 Questions]

A university lecture hall has a Cisco wireless high-density network with this configuration:
• 5 GHz only
• 20-MHz channels
• UNII-1, UNII-2, and UNII2-E channels
• TPC minimum = 8
• TPC maximum = 14

The lecture hall is 200 feet by 100 feet and has 16 Cisco APs that use directional antennas. Which feature must be included in the design to mitigate and reduce high-channel utilization from rogue APs?

  • A. band select
  • B. DFS detection
  • C. RxSOP
  • D. 802.11w

Band Select helps to steer clients to 5Ghz. Here is 5Ghz only design, so we do not need it. 802.11w is a management frame protection. Not applicable here. DFS Detection is also a different thing. I believe RxSOP, so the AP would consider the activity from rogue APs as noise instead of a 802.11 traffic

I thought so too but with all the UNII-2 and 2E channels enabled the only thing that "must be included in the design" is DFS detection. It's a nasty curve but that's Cisco.

I disagree, DFS is used to detect radar and move APs off the affected channel, nothing to do with Rogue APs

DFS is more about dynamically selecting channels to avoid radar interference rather than mitigating interference from other Wi-Fi devices. RxSOP on the other hand, adjusts the sensitivity of the APs to ignore weaker signals, which can help reduce the impact of interference from rogue APs and other sources.

Answer b Dfs will change channel if too noisy. Rxsop will Ignore and send over signal below threshold and can technically add to channel usage not reducing. Dfs would select a less used channel

DFS is not DCA

To mitigate and reduce high-channel utilization from rogue APs in the described Cisco wireless high-density network configuration, the feature that should be included in the design is DFS detection.

Another silly question by Cisco... B is the best answer here because it "must be included in the design" since it clearly states UNI-2-Extended channels are in use. However, D is also a decent answer. As Management Frame Protection (802.11w) is specifically designed to mitigate attacks from rogue APs, thus reducing their channel utilization.
