A. It is a security feature that denies certain traffic. = It’s ACL, wrong B. It is a device that receives IP packets that have no explicit next-hop in the routing table. = It’s default gateway because when we do not have a specific route for destination, we will use 0.0.0.0/0 = correct C. It is a feature that translates between public and private addresses = Its NAT or PAT = wrong D. It is a device that receives Layer 2 frames with an unknown destination address = It’s flooding, when we need to send a broadcast to all ports excepting source port for unknown unicast destination = wrong

Default Gateway is not equal to Default Route. B is the description for Default Route. Default gateway is a keyword used on End device(Host). End device will send frames used the mac address corresponding to the IP address of default gateway setting, when the end device don't know the IP address of destination. so the answer is D.

@Katsuma: Default gateways operate at L3, not L2. A gateway of last resort (or default gw) is a function of routing, L2 has nothing to do with the destination of an IP packet.

B is the correct answer, the guy that says that D is the correct answer, he is WRONG. check the glossary of CCNA 200-301 ( last version ) : "default gateway/default router On an IP host, the IP address of some router to which the host sends packets when the packet’s destination address is on a subnet other than the local subnet." and the check the explanation of https://networklessons.com/cisco/ccna-routing-switching-icnd1-100-105/what-is-a-default-gateway - When a host wants to reach a destination that is outside of its own network, it has to use a default gateway. We use a router or multilayer switch (that’s a switch that can do routing) as a default gateway.
