Hi, VRRP enables preemption by default. So, i would put instead : vrrp 10 priority ..

The question doesn't say the router must have highest priority. It just says *when* it does, it must become master. That can only mean it needs the preempt command. Also the priority command in Option B is wrong because it doesn't have a priority number.

Missing priority is probably a typo. Preemption is default for VRRP so no need to add it.

No need to add the preempt command, however the answer (D) is still correct because even though VRRP preempts by default, the preempt command: Allows you to re-enable it if previously disabled, Makes the config more explicit, So, it still achieves the requirement in the question.

Selected Answer: D
The virtual IP must be within the same subnet as the IP addresses of the physical interfaces on the routers participating in the HSRP or VRRP group. HSRP uses 'standby 10 IP 172.16.13.254', and 'standby 10 preempt' commands, while VRRP uses a different set of commands 'VRRP 10 IP 172.16.12.254', and 'VRRP 10 preempt'.

D is correct B is wrong, the question says when the router has the highest priority in the group, it must assume the master role, so we dont have to specify the priority. And if we assume that B has 120 at the end, it will be wrong too, since "group" command is incorrect, and subnet mask should not be included in the VRRP configuration command.

There has got to be something wrong with this question because preempt is enabled by default on VRRP and there's no value listed for the priority which means everything is set to defaults. none of it makes any sense
