the config is stored in the RAM, after "wr mem" the running config will be wiitten the NVRAM as startup config.

Correct. RAM. by DEFAULT. any changes on running config by DEFAULT goes to RAM. you still have to submit a command to save it to NVRAM

The running configuration is stored in the RAM (Random Access Memory). The ROM (Read-Only Memory) saves the bootstrap program that loads the Cisco IOS image into the device. The Flash memory is where the IOS is stored at boot time. The NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) stores the start-up configuration file. TFTP (Trivial FTP) used to provide remote backup for configuration file.

Correct. NVRAM. On bootup, their is NO configuration in RAM, it gets loaded from NVRAM each time during the boot process.
