It seems C is trick question because Receivers use join messages or membership reports, while Register messages are for Sources...

It actually disturbs me a little that the OCG neglects to cover this level of detail in A LOT of topics in the exams, yet it is still recommended. My opinion, it should be disregarded and the real advise given to test takers to just start with RFCs, White Papers, Labs and you will do better than making yourself believe that the OCG is actually a helpful tool. It gives false hope that you actually learned anything about the technologies being tested.

Selected Answer: A
A. Correct, sparse mode utilizes a pull mode. B. Incorrect, dense mode utilizes a push model. C. Incorrect, sources register with the RP, not the receivers. D. Incorrect, dense mode uses a flood and prune model to deliver multicast traffic. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/ipmulti_pim/configuration/xe-16-5/imc-pim-xe-16-5-book/imc-tech-oview.html#GUID-9A927418-52C4-451C-BBB7-1EC7FF9617F3

PIM sparse mode: this is a “pull” model where we only forward multicast traffic when requested. PIM dense mode: this is a “push” model where we flood multicast traffic everywhere and then prune it when it’s not needed. https://networklessons.com/cisco/ccie-routing-switching-written/multicast-pim-sparse-dense-mode

of course this wasnt mentioned in the OCG :D no single word "push" or "pull" through 30 pages. however solution is: PIM sparse mode: this is a “pull” model where we only forward multicast traffic when requested. PIM dense mode: this is a “push” model where we flood multicast traffic everywhere and then prune it when it’s not needed.

"PIM sparse mode (PIM-SM) uses a pull model to deliver multicast traffic. Only network segments with active receivers that have explicitly requested the data will receive the traffic." https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/ipmulti_pim/configuration/xe-16-5/imc-pim-xe-16-5-book/imc-tech-oview.html
