Can someone let Cisco know MD5 is a hasing alogorithm, not enryption. The wording is wrong. And...how can they still use MD5??!! It's correct but wrong on so many levels.
in reality the question should be about hashing the password.... Anyway:
R1(config)#enable secret ?
0 Specifies an UNENCRYPTED password will follow
5 Specifies a MD5 HASHED secret will follow
8 Specifies a PBKDF2 HASHED secret will follow
9 Specifies a SCRYPT HASHED secret will follow
LINE The UNENCRYPTED (cleartext) 'enable' secret
If we see the output the only valid option is md5.
Cisco introduced the enable secret password to improve the security of the enable password command. This command uses the cryptographically strong MD5 algorithm to encrypt passwords.
