"Once you understand REST and NETCONF individually, RESTCONF becomes much easier to understand. RESTCONF, in simplest terms, adds a REST API to NETCONF. YANG models are used with RESTCONF; the URLs, HTTP verbs, and request bodies are automatically generated from the associated YANG model. Unlike NETCONF, RESTCONF supports both XML and JSON. RESTCONF is a subset of NETCONF, so not all operations are supported, for example candidate configurations."
