The answer provided is correct. MSB pattern will be continuous 1s starting from the left.

The answer should be the first octet of the IP address, so MSB, meaning the first eight bits of the ip address would determine which class the IP address belongs to.
In classful networking, the amount of bits in the host field gets defined by the class you are in, not the other way around. The most significant (left) bits determine what class the IP belongs to, eg:
- If the first bit of the first octet is 0, then it's a class A network.
- If the first bit is 1 and the second one is 0, then it's a class B network
etc...
