Topic #: 1
[All 350-501 Questions]

Refer to the exhibit. A large organization is merging the network assets of a recently acquired competitor with one of its own satellite offices in the same geographic area. The newly acquired network is running a different routing protocol than the company's primary network. As part of the merger, a network engineer implemented this route map. Which task must the engineer perform to complete the implementation?

  • A. Attach the route map to the redistribution command to manipulate the routes as they are shared.
  • B. Enable metric-style wide to allow the use of extended metrics from the protocols.
  • C. Configure an additional route map sequence to override the implicit deny at the end of the route map.
  • D. Attach the route map to an IS-IS network statement to advertise the routes learned on this interface to IS-IS.

Selected Answer: A
Answer : A > The route map shown in the exhibit is configured to match routes with a specific tag (tag 15). This type of configuration is typically used in route redistribution scenarios to control which routes are redistributed between different routing protocols. In this scenario, since the organization is merging two networks that are using different routing protocols, route redistribution is likely necessary. The route map named match-tag is configured to match routes with the tag 15. This route map should be applied during the redistribution process to control which routes are redistributed based on the tag. To complete the implementation, the route map must be attached to the redistribution command. This ensures that only the routes with tag 15 are redistributed from one protocol to another, thus controlling the redistribution process effectively.

Selected Answer: A
You are going on a fake track. The engineer implemented the route-map and needs to complete the implementation. If we enable metric style wide, this will not complete the implementation because the route-map will sill need to be used at redistribution.

This is specific to IS-IS and affects how IS-IS metrics are used. It is not directly related to the application of a route map in redistribution.

The answer is A. "The newly acquired network is running a different routing protocol" This would mean that redistribution is needed. B is an option but I think in priority A is more closer to the answer.

Well, B seems to be right: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/iproute_isis/configuration/xe-3e/irs-xe-3e-book/irs-isis-supp-route-tags.html

answer is B : Kindly note that to use the route tagging feature in IS-IS, you must change to the 'metric-style wide command' from 'metric-style narrow' command which is configured by default under the ISIS router configuration. The tag value is set into sub-TLV 1 for type, length, values (TLV) Type 135.

B indeed, although A does exist, however it mentions 'manipulate' which is something the presented route-map doesn't do. So making it B for sure.

To use the route tag, you must configure the metric-style wide command. (The metric-style narrow command is configured by default.) The tag value is set into sub-TLV 1 for type, length, values (TLV) Type 135.
