If the users in the human resources department cannot access an application server and there are no logs indicating an attempt to access the application, it suggests there might be network segmentation or isolation in place. The most common method to isolate different departments or sections of a network is using VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks). Therefore, the correct answer is: C. VLAN

Selected Answer: C
If the application logs do not show any attempts by users to access the application server, it is likely that some network-related issue is preventing users from accessing the server. Out of the options given, the most likely culprit is VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network).

Selected Answer: B
B. ICMP The fact that the administrator is not seeing any attempts by the users to access the application in the application logs suggests that the issue may be related to network connectivity. ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) is a network protocol used to test for connectivity between two devices on a network. If ICMP traffic is being blocked by a firewall or other network device, it could prevent the human resources department users from accessing the application server. NAT (Network Address Translation) (A) is a technique used to remap IP addresses in a network packet, and would not be directly related to the issue of users not being able to access the application server. VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) (C) is a logical group of network devices that share a common broadcast domain, and would also not be directly related to the issue. NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection System) (D) is a security technology used to detect network attacks and would not be directly related to the issue of users not being able to access the application server.

they aren't trying to ping it... only a VLAN would explain why their connection attempts aren't logged.
