An organization relies on third-party videoconferencing to conduct daily business. Recent security changes now require all remote workers to utilize a VPN to corporate resources. Which of the following would best maintain high-quality videoconferencing while minimizing latency when connected to the VPN?

  • A. Using geographic diversity to have VPN terminators closer to end users
  • B. Utilizing split tunneling so only traffic for corporate resources is encrypted
  • C. Purchasing higher bandwidth connections to meet the increased demand
  • D. Configuring QoS properly on the VPN accelerators

Selected Answer: D
uality of Service (QoS) is a network management technique that prioritizes certain types of traffic, such as videoconferencing data, over other types of traffic on the network. By configuring QoS on the VPN accelerators, the organization can ensure that videoconferencing traffic receives sufficient bandwidth and low latency to maintain its quality, even when other types of traffic are competing for network resources. This helps prevent congestion and ensures that critical applications like videoconferencing receive the necessary priority, reducing the potential for audio or video disruptions during meetings.

B - key words "remote workers" which means they will be using their own network eliminating QOS. Split tunnel enhances performance.

Selected Answer: D
QoS allows prioritization of VPN traffic to ensure a consistent user experience, especially for applications with high bandwidth requirements2. When configuring QoS, you can select specific network traffic, prioritize it based on relative importance, and employ congestion-management and congestion-avoidance techniques. Implementing QoS in your network enhances predictability of network performance and optimizes bandwidth utilization. QoS is about quality. Split tunneling is about security.

Selected Answer: A
split tunneling can reduce VPN overhead and potentially improve videoconferencing performance, However, it may introduce security risks by exposing non-corporate traffic directly to the internet without VPN protection. This may violate a requirement.

Selected Answer: B
Utilizing split tunneling so only traffic for corporate resources is encrypted would best maintain high-quality videoconferencing while minimizing latency when connected to the VPN. Split tunneling is a technique that allows a VPN user to access both the public internet and the private network simultaneously, without routing all traffic through the VPN. This can improve the performance and quality of videoconferencing applications that rely on low latency and high bandwidth, as well as reduce the load on the VPN server.

Video conferencing is 3rd party, and need to minimize latency. Routing it through the VPN will not match the requirement to minimize latency. QoS could be a solution, but B is best here.

Answer is B Don't bring zoom back to the datacenter if you dont have to. Putting QOS on the VPN server does not do much as the internet ignores your QOS markings.

B. Utilizing split tunneling so only traffic for corporate resources is encrypted. Configuring QoS properly on the VPN accelerators may priortize the videoconferencing traffic over other types of traffic, but it does not eliminate the latency caused by the VPN tunneling and encryption.

It depends if your primary concern is video conferencing Quality. QoS is the better option. If security is a concern VPN split tunneling is the way to go.

you know that split tunnel VPNs only send some data through the tunnel and the rest through whatever ISP connection the user is on right? so it exposes some data
