B,C,D — Not (A) – answer A negates answers B, C, and D since B,C, and D imply a touch screen was installed and (A) says it was not a touchscreen – a digitizer cable and touch-screen drivers can’t be used with a non-touch-screen display. The only answers pertaining to a touch screen display are: B — The touch screen must be calibrated after a replacement. C — The digitizer cable is not seated properly on the motherboard. D — The new touch-screen drivers must be installed.

I think A makes the most sense given that the screen is non responsive. If it were B, a calibration issue, the digitizer would still read input, just not accurately. EFG don't really apply.

Why can't a replacement part be dead-on-arrival?

I believe because the screen is displaying just the touch screen portion isn’t working. So it can’t be DOA if it displays...?

I believe because the question states that the technician replaced the LED screen. If the LED screen was DOA, then the screen wouldn't power on at all. If the touchscreen isn't working, then that means that the LED screen IS working, but the digitizer is not. They are two separate devices, one doesn't effect the other.

They are seperate probable causes, not all of them at once. A doesn't negate anything. Still, it's a strange question. Grounding could certainly be a valid problem, but not all (or maybe even none) screens use screws to ground. Going for ACD on this one

Hello, so just like you all critical thinking folks, I was interested in knowing how and why the answer to this question is evenly divided. It's a real tricky question and I'm glad to see diverse opinions here from the selected fee who feel compelled to add an input here, something we all know we'd rather not. My chosen answer to this question are ACD and this is are my justifications: A immediately jumps to me because the "OS loads and can be seen perfectly on the screen" according to the question, right! Follow me on that, so your mobile computer boots and loads the OS perfectly. So now you you touch/tap an icon where you want to navigate on your screen right? So you tap on e.g Windows/My computer, you get no response...then do a swipe up, no response again then touch/tap tap tap a few other icons and that's when you realize yyour touchscreen is non-responsive

How can it be A when the question says "the touch screen is non-responsive" what tech worth their salt would overlook documentation stating what type of screen is in the box?

Folks, I have to confess: A year ago I posted some comments insisting that the "correct" answers were A, C and E (new part doesnt have a touch feature, cable wasnt installed right, or part was DOA), because in all of my years of IT support I know those are the MOST likely reasons the touchscreen would be UNResponsive. However, the CompTIA Exam bears NO relation to "Actual reality" and the answers you must provide are the answers comptia has decided are "correct". Therefore I have to update my suggested answer. In the Official CompTia A+ core 1 220-1001 prayer guide and songbook Studyguide, in the troubleshooting laptop issues section, the troubleshooting steps for touchscreens says to rule out a software problem Before suspecting a more serious hardware problem. in other words, don't assume it's DOA or that the part didn't include a digitizer. It goes on to say: check the cable first, then reinstall the drivers, and then run the calibration utility. B, C and D

A, sometimes parts get ordered by a looking at a part number on the old parts, and a display unit might have a part number for the display portion, and another for the whole unit with digitizer, but what got ordered was the display only part. Very common. C, the connector for a digitizer is probably only a thin little ribbon cable connected to a zif-clamshell type of connector, and they can be tricky to get plugged in right. E, When replacement parts are ordered in bulk, it is common to get some *partially* doa items in the mix. which means the display could appear fine, but the digitizer portion, which has its OWN plug, could be doa. I have seen this first hand.

From a desktop support tech for 7 years, A C E realistically would be my choice. Calibrating the touch screen makes the input more accurate and wouldn't stop it from functioning. We get do get some DOE parts and wrong parts. Parts from IBM/Lenovo are not always new, some are refurbished which could result in DOE.

However, the question states that the LED screen was replaced and answer 'E' states that the replacement part is DOA. If the LED was DOA, then the screen wouldn't provide any output at all. Therefore, 'E' cannot be the correct answer.

The question asks simply for Probable causes, meaning events that could likely resulted in that result. By this A is a likelihood. Also C and D could are events that could cause such result.

If its failure it should be assumed that it is indeed the right screen. Therefore BCD should be correct.
