i dont get this question at all. they talk about the workstation receiving no network connectivity but then talk about the VOIP phone having a flattened patch cable.

shouldn't it be "Split Pairs" ? "A split pair is a wiring error where two wires of a twisted pair are instead connected using two wires from different pairs, potentially creating interference." "Excessive Collisions: This means that if an interface fails to allocate a slot in which it can transmit its frame without another collision 16 times, it gives up. The frame is simply not transmitted, and is marked as an excessive collision." Excessive collisions might be related with not finding a slot to transmit the frame. Not with the "Physical collisions" of the chair with the cable. I think they are playing here with "collisions" word

Nah, crosstalk is caused by electric interference.

Yes, crosstalk is electromagnetic interference between wires on the same UTP cable. This is avoided using twisted pairs. When the wires stop being twisted (flattened, as in the question), crosstalk happens and can completely degrade the signal.
