Note that it is saying headset not headphones. Headsets have attached microphones and are more used on PCs and Gaming Systems. Headphones can have an integrated microphone, but its usually not visible or offers the same quality. Headphones are just used for audio (in most cases), some headsets use a 305mm headphone jack as well, but PC dedicated quality headsets will commonly have a USB
A few years ago yes (although as i remember they often came with a split cable with 1 connection for headphones and one for mic), nowadays a USB headset is frequently part of the standard issue kit for a new office employee. Less frequently found at home but in a work environment an everyday piece of equipment.
