B. The USB cable is not compatible with thunderbolt technology. Yes USBC is a physical connector, but not all USBC cables support video output or thunderbolt / DisplayPort alt mode. If the laptop works through a USBC docking station, which likely uses a thunderbolt / DisplayPort alt mode compatible or controller, but not directly to the projector the cable is likely the weakest link.
