In "Hunt, J. Ashley. CompTIA Project+ Certification Guide : Learn Project Management Best Practices and Successfully Pass the CompTIA Project+ PK0-004 Exam" this matches best with a Strong Matrix, which is described as having a PMO but still having team members reporting to functional managers, hence the need to provide feedback to managers. If it wasn't for that last line, projectized would be fine.

Projectized organizations do not have a team member managers, or functional managers. This answer is mostly likely C. It could be a or b too, this is vaguely worded, but the answer is DEFINITELY not D.

I don't agree with how the answer is D. This is where the PM has the most authority

Selected Answer: C
I would say that the answer is C because the Project Manager has to provide performance feedback to team members' managers for Performance evaluation.

The "New Project Manager" is doing assistant management tasks it sounds like. And there is no distinction regarding whether the "Team members' Managers have superceding authority over the other. Leading me to believe this is a balanced Matrix.

Its the FM who writes the performance review withing functional org. Why would the PM need to provide feedback to the FM regarding the assigned team member?

(Part 2) With all that said we can dissect the given details to eliminate each wrong answer. Balanced Matrix Can be eliminated because we know the PM has been given control of the management of the triple constraint. This means control over resources (i.e. staff) and budget. Functional matrix: PM may not even be needed or is part time. Resources and budget are controlled by FM. Projectized: PM is in complete control of the triangle here however the given details say feedback is provided to managers. This shows that the FM is still involved even at the lowest possible level. Leaving the correct answer of B. strong matrix. The PM has control of the resources that were assigned and has full control of the budget. The FM has very limited if any authority but he/she is still a manager of team members and thus can receive feedback from the PM on the team member performance.

Selected Answer: B
Ok lets break this down (2 or 3 Posts/Parts): Balanced matrix: PM and FM share authority. PM is a full time role, PM staff is part time (split between FM and PM tasks) Both managers control the budget. Strong Matrix: PM is full time, have full authority, control budget, will have a team reporting to them. Functional Matrix: PM may not even be needed, only part time if they are. Team members are assigned and take direction from FM. Projectized: The FM is almost if not Nonexistent. PM has absolute power over all aspects of the project.

I am not sure since when in a Projectized Organisation does a Project Manager write reports to a Funtional Manager

I feel it may be a balanced Matrix. Considering that the PM can manage the triple constraints (scope, time, budget). I wouldn't say strong Matrix, because the team appears to still report to the functional manager

Provided answer is correct. Please note that PM got all the rights to manage team and constraints. And this is given to him/her by PMO, not any functional or general manager = projectized organization

I was about to argue with you, but now I agree. It doesn't say the team members REPORT to the FM, it says the PM needs to provide performance feedback to the FM. This is Projectized.
