Just enforcing what many others are saying...APIPA is for IPv4, not IPv6. The correct answer is D. "d0ggyl0v3r" and "b0ugi3" explanations are spot-on.

Selected Answer: A
Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is a feature in operating systems (such as Windows) that enables computers to automatically self-configure an IP address and subnet mask when their DHCP server isn't reachable

Selected Answer: D
D is the correct answer. IPv4 is APIPA so the process of elimination means EUI-64.

No idea what EUI-64 was but sure enough it is a Net+ objective. I would say D.

IPv6 does NOT use APIPA, this applies only to IPv4. The answer is EUI-64. Explanation: EUI-64 (Extended Unique Identifier) is a method we can use to automatically configure IPv6 host addresses. An IPv6 device will use the MAC address of its interface to generate a unique 64-bit interface ID. However, a MAC address is 48 bit and the interface ID is 64 bit.

Many people get confused about IPv6 link-local addresses when they are first learning about IPv6 because there isn’t really any IPv4 equivalent of this type of IPv6 address. However, the only thing that comes close to IPv6 link-local addresses is the IPv4 Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) method. When a host fails to obtain an IPv4 address with DHCP, it resigns itself to its fate of being incommunicado, and assigns its interface an APIPA address. You have surely witnessed (likely in a moment of exasperated troubleshooting!) a host with an IPv4 address in the 169.254.0.0/16 range (see RFC 3927). Like IPv6 link-local addresses, these APIPA addresses are usable addresses for unicast communications within a single broadcast domain on the LAN.

this is what google says, and sounds like the best answer... EUI-64 (Extended Unique Identifier) is a method we can use to automatically configure IPv6 host addresses. An IPv6 device will use the MAC address of its interface to generate a unique 64-bit interface ID.

Yeaaaaaaahhh this is very wrong. APIPA only applies to IPv4. EUI-64 is the IPv6 equivalent of APIPA, assigning a link-local address.

EUI-64 is similar to DHCP, but for IPv6. Can anyone verify that D is correct?
