The answer should be "Hacktivist" which is not among the answers. State actors can make advanced persistent threats (APT), but they should be able to do hacktivism, so I go with state actors.

While APTs can be any group of highly organized attackers, they are typically sponsored by nation-states or governments. In this context, APT members are state actors. These state actors typically have specific targets, such as a certain company, organization, or government agency. Successful attacks often allow unauthorized access for long periods of time, giving the APTs the ability to exfiltrate a significant amount of data. Being funded by nation-states, they often have a significant amount of resources and funding

State actors, also known as nation-state actors, are government entities or agencies that engage in various cyber activities. It's pretty far fetching to say this was a government agencies job.

That's what I was thinking. A government doing this (while we know happens) just threw me off. This should've been hacktivist.

In this scenario, the threat actors responsible for the server breach and posting stolen internal communications concerning campaign strategies are likely to be state actors. State actors are hackers or cybercriminals who are backed or sponsored by a nation-state. They are well-funded, sophisticated, and often have significant resources and expertise at their disposal. State actors usually have specific goals, such as espionage, political manipulation, or gaining a competitive advantage on the international stage.

Gibson in his book described: Gray hat (also known as a semi-authorized hacker) identifies individuals who may have good intentions, but their activities may cross ethical lines. For example, a hacktivist may use attack methods to further a cause, but not for personal gain.

I don't agree with your assessment. The truth is I was looking for hacktivists on this response as well. None of the other responses for this answer fall neatly into place. For example let's just say there was one presidential candidate that was really in favor of a foreign country and the other one wasn't. In that case an advanced persistent threat or APT would be appropriate. And frankly that was the reason why I went with that answer. Because when you're dealing with political elections whether they're from a state or the entire country that does have effects that are national and international. So how can one choose between a state actor or an APT? the simple truth is you can't. this question is phenomenally difficult to answer because there are so many different vectors one can take with it. The only appropriate answer was hacktivist and for whatever reason that was not included. So I agree with the previous statement…. FUCK YOU COMPTIA.

“Nation-state threat actors are persistent and mission-oriented, which makes it that much more difficult for private organizations to defend effectively,” Unlike criminal actors, nation-state threat actors are not motivated by financial gain and have a great deal of sophisticated resources and patience. As was seen during the SolarWinds attack, blamed on Russia, nation-state actors can lurk inside a compromised network for months without detection. Anyway, go for Hactivists if there is one.

This is not a state actor because he is not sponsored by the state...... State actor seems to be the best answer in the options anyways

B It should be hacktivists but that's not on the list of options so I'm leaning to state actors as it mentioned "political party"
