IOPS stands for input/output operations per second. It's a measurement of performance for hard drives (HDDs or SSDs) and storage area networks. IOPS represents how quickly a given storage device or medium can read and write commands in every second. For example, a hard drive that spins at 7200 RPM may have a total IOPS value of 90. A modern SSD may have an IOPS value above 100,000. Some high-end flash drives have IOPS measurements above one million.
