"in use" = processed in the memory "at rest" = stored in drives etc "in transit" = as data moves across media

Data in use is always in volatile memory, whether that is VRAM on the file system or within the RAM. If the data is being passed across a local network, would that not mean that it is "in use". It wouldn't pass if it were not being accessed. I could be wrong, but that is my thinking.
