Selected Answer: A
The cause of the issue is most likely related to the Domain Name System (DNS). When the technician can ping servers by IP address but cannot ping by UNC path, it means that the laptop is able to connect to the network, but is having trouble resolving the names of the servers using DNS. The UNC path uses server names instead of IP addresses, so if the DNS is not configured correctly, the laptop will not be able to resolve the names and connect to the servers. Therefore, the technician should verify the DNS settings on the laptop and ensure that the correct DNS server addresses are configured.

what if DNS server is a separate broad cast domain/ on different subnet ? Server can be on the same subnet/ same domain. For security reason to avoid/reduce possibility of DNS poisoning? Would it not need correct default gateway to get to DNS server in first place via router ? I suspect that B is correct

If the gateway is wrong, it won't be able to ping by IP address.
